Michelle Scurlock

Michelle Scurlock, originally from St. Charles, IL, has graduated with a BFA in dance from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

While at the University, Michelle was privileged to work with choreographers Linda Lehovec, Erika Randall, Denise Posnak, Angela Miller, Cynthia Oliver, and Germaul Barnes.

One of her most notable performances was Arthur Aviles' role in Bill T. Jones’ 1994 MacArthur Genius Award winning work, D-Man in the Waters. Recognizably, she is the first female to dance this role.

Michelle's choreography has been showcased in Freespace, a summer annual non-for profit performance held in St. Charles, IL. She has taught ballet, jazz, pointe, modern, and lyrical styles for all ages at an assortment of dance schools in the Chicago area for the past five years. Her theory and approach to movement ranges from the powerful and spatial to the intricate and gestural. She utilizes this wide array of dance movement vocabulary as a vehicle to express the human experience.

Besides sharing her love for dance through teaching and choreography, Michelle enjoys performing many different styles of dance and looks forward to her future experiences.
